LOCAL GROUPS

MS Ayrshire & Arran has several satellite groups which meet on a regular basis.
These groups offer people with an interest in MS to meet and enjoy social and creative activities, and to forget their troubles for a while.

Groups meet all over Ayrshire and summaries of each group, along with their meeting times, appear below.

Please note: you do not have to be a member of MS Society or have MS to take part in any of our groups.

The  Social Section of  ‘MS Ayrshire’ is still going strong and from meets in the Gailes Hotel, Irvine  We meet at 6.30 pm on the first Thursday of the month from September to May and offer a night of entertainment which is well worth leaving the house for. So come along to the Thistle Hotel to join us for a good night, away from their cares and free from worries for at least a couple of hours.

This is a great evening at a cost of only £6 which includes your meal and the entertainment. We look forward to seeing you at our next gathering.

Henderson Group: contact Catherine Honeyman on 01563 539537
Courtesy of the 37th Ayrshire Scouts, we meet in their premises behind Henderson Kirk, London Road, Kilmarnock on the first and third Tuesdays of each month from 1 – 4pm.

We meet together for a cuppa and a blether, have lively discussion on a variety of topics, often thought-provoking and always with humour. We appreciate our volunteers who give generously of their time: Gillian our therapist; Rena our first aider; Moira, who organises our raffles, the proceeds from these enables us to go to the Fig Tree Restaurant twice a year. Thanks also  go to Moureen Jones, our link to the local Branch committee, for her guidance and support when problems arise. For more information please contact Catherine.

Cunninghame Drop-in Centre: contact Margaret Shuttleworth on 01294 461357
The Cunninghame MS Drop-in Centre is still fortunate enough to meet in the same place - St. John's Church Hall in Stevenston - each Thursday from 12 until 3-30.

We have weeks when friends just want to 'blether' and other weeks we maybe hold a quiz or a raffle. Some of our more active members play carpet bowls and those not so active take part in domino competitions. We try to cater for as many requests for activities as we can but we are always looking for new ideas.

Most weeks we have sandwiches and cakes and as much coffee or tea as you can drink but we do have weeks when a roll and sausage or hot dogs are available and twice each year we have haggis, mash and neeps namely the Thursdays nearest Burn's Night and St Andrew's Day.

We have a number of special Birthdays this year and for this we try and put on a buffet lunch with a special Birthday Cake for the Birthday boy/girl.

Anyone with MS is welcome to come along with a carer (if they need one).
The premises do have the facilities we require so come along and join us.
You never know. you might just enjoy it!

Yoga: contact Jean Howie on 01292 268434
Yoga class meets in the Day Centre Lounge at the Biggart Hospital in Prestwick on a Monday evening from 7.15 pm to 8.45 pm from September through to May with the usual break at Christmas and New Year. We are a very sociable group and as well as the physical work we do there is a lot of chat and laughter. If you would like more information, please telephone Jean.
